Deactivation of World War II bombs found under Mestre Railway Station
VENICE - Two explosive devices have been found in the subsoil of Mestre's Railway Station.
Evacuation is essential from a radius of 250 meters as of where the deactivation process will take place. The Mayor of Venice has issued an order for the evacuation of all persons, animals and goods from the area. On Sunday February 17th at 9:30 a.m. all of Mestre's and Marghera's street numbers in the area surrounding the defusing operations. The area must be cleared until the entire process is completed, established around 1:00 p.m. (approximately) barring unforeseen circumstances. Accordingly, the conclusion of the process will be communicated.
The Municipality will provide assistance to all those in need such as the unaided elderly and the disabled activating the following assembly centres:
Mestre: Centro Civico (Civic Centre) via Sernaglia n. 43 (Sernaglia Street, 43)
Marghera: Scuola Media L. Einaudi (Einaudi Intermediate School), via Canal, 20 (Canal Street, 20) (an ACTV shuttle bus service to Piazzale Giovannacci will be set up to reach this site).
Please remember to bring along any medicines that you may need, documents, and only what is essential.
It is recommended to help the elderly, the disabled and anyone in need.
